Reasons for Price Changes

  1. 2024-2025: Diesel prices rose in 2025 due to an increase in central excise duty. Higher state VAT in several states also added to the price hike.
  2. 2023-2024: In recent years, diesel prices have changed slightly due to issues in supply chain and geopolitical tensions. In the country, diesel prices have increased slightly due to changes in tax rates.
  1. 2021-2022: In India, diesel prices increased significantly as crude oil prices jumped as economies began recovering from COVID-19. High taxes also played a role in ensuring diesel prices increased.
  1. 2019-2020: The prices of crude oil dropped significantly due to the impact of COVID-19. This ensured that taxes on diesel reduced.
  1. 2016-2018: Diesel prices in India increased during these years. The prices of diesel saw an upward trend as central and state governments increased taxes.
  1. 2015: Diesel prices fell in India due to a drop in prices of crude oil. Crude oil rates fell due to weaker demand.
